This position is assigned to the Ares I Upper Stage for National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA's) Constellation program. The Ares I Rocket uses a solid rocket booster for the First Stage and a liquid oxygen/hydrogen J-2X engine for the Upper Stage. The positions are based at the NASA Michoud, LA, facility.
Position Responsibilities: Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, and supply teams to develop and guide the implementation of Weld Process Development and specifications for Friction Stir Welding (FSW) and associated weld equipment. Ensures the identification and implementation of welding processes in support of the manufacturing effort. Uses process engineering principles and techniques. Develops, establishes, and guides weld process development for assembly, tooling and manufacturing configurations. Performs trade and cost studies and assists in leading integrated product and process teams. Will work with other functional disciplines in establishing and maintaining Friction Stir Welding (FSW) schedules at the Michoud Assembly Facility, LA. Maintains responsibility, accountability, and authority for activity on multidisciplinary teams. Develops innovative solutions to complex engineering and manufacturing systems problems. Serves as a consultant to upper management on long-range planning for advanced systems developments. Positions require proficiency with FSW applications.
